Seasons and Elements (Air) 1678 Painting by Charles Le Brun Art Print (6 Sizes)
A luminous Seasons and Elements (Air) art print that captures the rich decorative splendor of late seventeenth-century French design. Based on a ca. 1683 embroidered hanging attributed to Charles Le Brun and associated with the Convent of Saint Joseph-de-la-Providence in Paris, this striking composition is worked in silk, wool, and metal-thread embroidery in tent stitch on canvas. The central scene shows a classical figure seated on a great eagle amid billowing clouds, while a ring of red roses, parrots, pheasants, and gilded scrollwork frames the image in vivid, ornamental detail. Reflecting the grandeur of the Louis XIV era, this handsome print brings the Baroque taste for allegory and abundance into any room.
The original medium is canvas; silk, wool, and metal-thread embroidery in tent stitch (316 stitches per sq. inch, 49 stitches per sq. cm.). From the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Rogers Fund, 1946). Printed in Texas by GleeBeeCo on heavyweight matte archival, acid-free paper for rich colour and lasting detail.
